They are commonly found on basement walls and behind boxes and furniture in dark damp spaces.  Like most crickets they will feed on any fabric or paper they come in contact with.  Over the counter insecticides are effective in temporarily reducing the cricket population, but proper preventative measures are the best way of eliminating camel crickets in the basement and your home altogether.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" align=\"right\" alt=\"camel cricket\" src=\"http:\/\/you-can-fix-it.com\/Camel_Cricket1.jpg\"><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 1:  Seal gaps and cracks around basement windows, as well as the foundation of your home with caulk, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0013WME6C\/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=cotti-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=217153&#038;creative=399705&#038;creativeASIN=B0013WME6C\">spray foam insulation<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=cotti-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=B0013WME6C&#038;camp=217153&#038;creative=399705\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\" \/> or other materials.  Replace the threshold and door sweep on doors with gaps large enough for crickets to creep under.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 2:  Eliminate cardboard boxes and paper in your basement. Camel crickets cannot reproduce unless they are exposed to moisture for an extended period of time.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 5:  Avoid putting shrubs, ground cover or stacks of firewood near the foundation of your home. Camel crickets are especially fond of English ivy and breed in it and other thick ground covers.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 6:  Eliminate existing crickets by placing glue traps under storage shelves and behind furniture in the basement.
