{"id":61,"date":"2011-01-15T18:34:00","date_gmt":"2011-01-15T22:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/you-can-fix-it.com\/fix\/?p=61"},"modified":"2011-09-19T22:37:07","modified_gmt":"2011-09-20T02:37:07","slug":"home-fix-it-patching-a-hole-in-drywall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.you-can-fix-it.com\/fix\/home-fix-it\/home-fix-it-patching-a-hole-in-drywall\/","title":{"rendered":"Wall: Patching a Hole in Drywall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Patching a Hole in Drywall<\/strong><br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nA small hole in drywall, let\u2019s say roughly the size of a door knob\u2026 or maybe a fist\u2026 can be easily fixed with an aluminum wall repair patch, some spackle and a little paint.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 1 &#8211; Clean the area around the hole.  Brush away any loose debris and wash with a non-residual cleaner such as TSP or Dirtex.  Let the area dry completely before proceeding.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 2 \u2013 Trim the aluminum wall patch so it is approximately an inch or so larger than the hole.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 3 \u2013 If the patch is not self adhesive, apply a thin coat of spackling or joint compound to the surface around the hole.  Press the patch into place and use a wide putty knife to smooth a thin layer of spackling or joint compound on the surface of the patch.  Be sure to spread the compound evenly over the edges and onto the surrounding surface.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 4 \u2013 Once the compound is dry, sand it lightly with a fine sanding sponge or 100 grit sand paper.   Apply a second coat of compound and let it dry.<br \/>\n<P><br \/>\nStep 5 \u2013 Lightly sand the area, again, to a smooth finish and wash with TSP or Dirtex to remove any dust particles.  Wait several hours or even a day to allow everything to dry completely and paint the repaired area to match the surrounding surface.
